Immune system desensitization refers to a therapeutic process designed to reduce or eliminate hypersensitivity reactions by gradually retraining the immune system to tolerate specific allergens or antigens. This is most commonly applied in the context of allergies, autoimmune diseases, and certain transplant protocols. It involves repeated exposure to increasing doses of the allergen to shift the immune response from IgE to IgG4/IgA and induce regulatory T cells.
