The IgE-mediated immune response is a specialized arm of the immune system primarily involved in defense against parasitic infections and in the pathogenesis of allergic diseases. Immunoglobulin E (IgE) is an antibody produced by plasma cells, and it plays a central role in type I hypersensitivity reactions, which include common allergies such as food allergies, asthma, allergic rhinitis, and anaphylaxis.
