The process can further involve opsonization by complement proteins and activation of complement pathways (classical, lectin, alternative) through antigen-antibody complexes[1][2][4][5][9]. Therapeutic strategies including vaccine adjuvants and immunostimulants exploit or enhance this process to promote immune protection, but excessive or inappropriate activation can lead to adverse inflammatory reactions or autoimmunity[7][9].
