This target refers to the enhancement of immune system function by stimulating both the proliferation of macrophages and the activity of immunologically active molecules (such as cytokines, chemokines, and interferons). Macrophages are key innate immune cells responsible for phagocytosis, antigen presentation, and orchestration of inflammatory responses. Their numbers in tissues can increase through local proliferation or recruitment from blood monocytes. Immunologically active molecules produced by macrophages (and other immune cells) mediate communication within the immune system and modulate its activation state.
