Overview

Desensitization of the immune system through exposure to allergens from Dermatophagoides farinae and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (house dust mites) aims to reduce the immune system's hypersensitivity by gradually introducing increasing doses of specific allergens. This induces tolerance and reduces allergic symptoms, primarily by targeting mast cells, basophils, T regulatory lymphocytes, IgE, IgG4, IgA antibodies, and cytokines such as IL-10 and TGF-beta.

Mechanism of action

Desensitization of the immune system via exposure to Dermatophagoides farinae and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus allergens involves multiple stages: early reduction of mast cell/basophil degranulation, intermediate induction of allergen-specific Tregs (secreting IL-10/TGF-beta) which suppress Th2 inflammation, and late changes in antibody production (decreased IgE, increased IgG4/IgA). IL-10 plays a central role by promoting IgE to IgG4/IgA class switching and suppressing mast cell/basophil activation.
