Immune system modulation via allergen exposure describes the complex process by which the immune system responds to allergens, ranging from sensitization and allergic reactions to desensitization and tolerance. It involves a cascade of cellular and molecular events, including antigen presentation, T cell and B cell activation, cytokine and antibody production, and the recruitment of inflammatory cells. Allergen-specific immunotherapy aims to shift the immune response from a pathogenic Th2-dominated profile toward regulatory or tolerant states, reducing allergic symptoms and improving quality of life.
