Immune system modulation via induction of tolerance to Dermatophagoides farinae and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus allergens is a therapeutic approach, not a molecule or receptor, that aims to suppress allergic symptoms by retraining the immune system to tolerate major house dust mite allergens. This is usually accomplished via allergen immunotherapy, which exposes patients to gradually increasing doses of purified allergens, promoting the expansion of regulatory T cells (Tregs), increased secretion of anti-inflammatory cytokines (IL-10, TGF-β), and a shift from IgE to IgG4 antibody responses, thereby reducing the activity of mast cells, basophils, and eosinophils responsible for allergic inflammation[2][6][7][10]. Patient response can be monitored by changes in these immunological markers and the occurrence or reduction of allergic symptoms.
