Target intelligence / Profile preview
Immune system stimulation via allergen exposure is the process by which the immune system recognizes and responds to foreign proteins (allergens), leading to activation of innate and adaptive immune components. When an allergen binds to IgE antibodies on mast cells or basophils through high-affinity IgE receptors (FcεRI), it triggers immediate hypersensitivity reactions characterized by the release of mediators such as histamine[1][2][4][6]. T cells, particularly Th2 subsets, are activated by allergen presentation, driving cytokine production (IL-4, IL-5, IL-13) and recruitment of inflammatory cells like eosinophils and basophils[1][2][4][5]. Chronic allergen exposure can result in ongoing inflammation and tissue damage. Allergen immunotherapy aims to modulate these responses and promote tolerance, primarily via regulatory T cell induction and cytokine shifts (IL-10, TGF-β)[3][6]. Targeting components of this immune process has therapeutic applications in allergic diseases; however, the process itself is not a single molecular target and includes multiple receptor-ligand interactions within the immune system.
