Immune system activation via CpG DNA adjuvant stimulation refers to the process of stimulating the innate and adaptive immune systems through the use of synthetic oligodeoxynucleotides (ODNs) containing unmethylated cytosine-phosphate-guanine (CpG) motifs. These motifs mimic bacterial and viral DNA and are recognized by Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9), primarily in plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs) and B cells. Activation of TLR9 triggers a cascade of immune events, including cytokine production, upregulation of costimulatory molecules, and enhanced antigen presentation, leading to a Th1-biased immune response and improved vaccine efficacy.
CpG ODNs bind to TLR9, activating downstream signaling cascades that lead to the production of cytokines and upregulation of costimulatory molecules, ultimately enhancing antigen presentation and adaptive immune responses.
