Overview

Immune tolerance is a fundamental property of the immune system in which it remains unresponsive to specific antigens that would otherwise provoke an immune response. This process is crucial for preventing the immune system from attacking the body’s own tissues (self-antigens) and for maintaining homeostasis. Immune tolerance can be naturally occurring (as with self-antigens) or induced by prior exposure to non-self antigens under certain conditions.
