An immunogenic cell death (ICD) inducer is any agent—chemical, biological, or physical—that triggers a regulated form of cell death in such a way that the dying cells stimulate an adaptive immune response against antigens associated with those cells. Unlike typical apoptosis or necrosis, ICD is characterized by the release and exposure of specific molecules known as damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs), which serve as signals to activate immune cells.
