Immunogenic cell death (ICD) induction refers to the process of triggering a specific form of regulated cell death that activates the immune system, particularly in the context of cancer therapy. Unlike non-immunogenic forms of cell death, ICD is characterized by its ability to stimulate both innate and adaptive immune responses against dying cells, often leading to long-lasting antitumor immunity. It is characterized by the release or exposure of damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) from dying cells, which act as immunostimulatory signals that attract antigen-presenting cells and prime T-cells.
