Target intelligence / Profile preview
Immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies specific to Melopsittacus undulatus (budgerigar) feather allergens are the primary mediators of immediate hypersensitivity reactions in individuals sensitized to these birds. These antibodies are produced by B cells upon exposure to budgerigar feather dander, which contains allergenic proteins such as serum albumin (approximately 67-70 kDa) and other smaller proteins (20-30 kDa). Upon re-exposure, the specific IgE molecules, which are typically bound to high-affinity receptors (FcεRI) on mast cells and basophils, cross-link with the allergens, triggering the release of inflammatory mediators like histamine and leukotrienes. This cascade leads to clinical manifestations such as allergic rhinitis, asthma, and conjunctivitis. Therapeutic strategies for managing severe cases include the use of anti-IgE monoclonal antibodies like omalizumab, which sequester free IgE and prevent its binding to cellular receptors, thereby dampening the allergic response.
Binding to the Cε3 domain of the Fc region of free IgE, thereby preventing its interaction with the high-affinity IgE receptor (FcεRI) on mast cells and basophils.
