Immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibody-mediated mast cell activation is a central mechanism in allergic reactions and certain immune responses. This process involves the binding of IgE antibodies to high-affinity receptors (FcεRI) on the surface of mast cells. Upon subsequent exposure to a specific antigen (allergen), cross-linking of these IgE molecules triggers mast cell activation, leading to the release of various mediators responsible for inflammation and allergy symptoms.
Anti-IgE monoclonal antibodies reduce free serum IgE levels or block its interaction with FcεRI.
