Immunoglobulin E-mediated Response (IgE-mediated Response)

Target
IgE-mediated Response
Molecular classification
Immune response
01

Overview

The immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated response is a specific type of immune reaction primarily involved in allergic diseases and defense against certain parasites. IgE is an antibody produced by plasma cells, a subset of B lymphocytes, in response to exposure to allergens or parasitic antigens. This response is central to the pathogenesis of immediate (Type I) hypersensitivity reactions, including allergic rhinitis, asthma, atopic dermatitis, food allergies, and anaphylaxis.

Mechanism of action

Drugs target various points in the pathway including: - Blocking histamine effects - Suppressing inflammation - Blocking leukotriene-mediated effects - Preventing mast cell degranulation - Sequestering free IgE or blocking its receptor interaction
