Overview

Immunoglobulin heavy constant gamma 3 (IGHG3) is the constant region of the heavy chain of IgG3, a subclass of IgG antibodies, which are secreted or membrane-associated glycoproteins produced by B lymphocytes. These antibodies play a pivotal role in the recognition and elimination of antigens as part of humoral immunity. The constant region facilitates effector functions such as complement activation (particularly potent in IgG3) and interaction with Fc receptors on immune cells, thereby linking antigen recognition to immune responses including phagocytosis and cellular cytotoxicity. IGHG3 is not a therapeutic target itself, but is a structural component and biomarker relevant in certain diseases (such as heavy chain disease and autoimmune or infectious conditions), and in rare cases is targeted for enzymatic modification (e.g., by imlifidase in transplant medicine)
