Immunoglobulin heavy constant gamma P pseudogene (IGHGP)

Target
IGHGP
Molecular classification
Other, Pseudogene, related to Immunoglobulin superfamily
01

Overview

IGHGP stands for Immunoglobulin heavy constant gamma P pseudogene. Located within the immunoglobulin heavy chain gene cluster on human chromosome 14, IGHGP is a non-functional genomic segment that resembles functional IGHG genes, which encode the constant regions of immunoglobulin gamma heavy chains (the main protein components of IgG antibodies)[1][2]. Pseudogenes like IGHGP may arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events, leading to loss of protein-coding ability through frameshift mutations or premature stop codons. IGHGP does not encode a functional protein and does not contribute to immune system function, antibody formation, or therapeutic targeting[1][2]. It is sometimes referenced in genomic studies cataloging the full diversity of the immunoglobulin heavy chain locus but has no direct biological or clinical relevance.
