Immunoglobulin heavy diversity 1-26 (IGHD1-26) is a diversity (D) gene segment located within the immunoglobulin heavy chain locus (IGH) on chromosome 14 in humans. During B cell development, the IGHD1-26 gene can be rearranged with variable (IGHV) and joining (IGHJ) gene segments via somatic recombination to form part of the variable domain of antibodies. This genetic process underlies the generation of antibody diversity critical to adaptive immunity, but IGHD1-26 itself does not function as a receptor, enzyme, or direct drug target. Key points: IGHD1-26 is a genetic element required for the generation of antibody diversity. It has no known therapeutic targeting, direct disease association, or interaction with drugs. It is not a canonical molecular target for pharmacology or clinical diagnostics.
