Overview

Immunoglobulin heavy diversity 2-15 (IGHD2-15) is part of the immunoglobulin heavy chain (IGH) gene locus, specifically classified as a D (diversity) gene segment[2][4][5]. During early B-cell development, one D segment (such as IGHD2-15), one V (variable) segment, and one J (joining) segment undergo somatic recombination (V(D)J recombination) to generate the variable region of the immunoglobulin heavy chain[1][3]. This process creates the immense diversity of antibody recognition specificities needed for the adaptive immune response. IGHD2-15 is not a therapeutic target or a receptor/enzyme, but its sequence can influence the antibody repertoire generated in individuals. Genetic polymorphisms and variations within the IGH locus, including IGHD2-15, have been linked to differences in immune responsiveness and disease susceptibility in populations[3]. IGHD2-15 and related segments are mainly of research interest in immunology and genetics, not as clinical targets[2][4][5].
