Overview

Immunoglobulin heavy diversity 3-22 (IGHD3-22) is a member of the diversity (D) gene segment family located within the immunoglobulin heavy chain (IGH) gene locus on chromosome 14[6]. IGHD3-22 contributes to the diversity of the complementarity determining region 3 (CDR3) of immunoglobulin heavy chains, which is the central region responsible for the antigen binding specificity and diversity of antibodies[2][3][6]. During B cell development, IGHD3-22 can be incorporated into the V(D)J recombination process that forms unique B cell receptors and antibodies[2][4]. This genomic segment is essential for the adaptive immune response, supporting the generation of diverse antibody repertoires. There is no evidence that IGHD3-22 is itself a therapeutic target, nor is it a receptor or an enzyme; it is a genetic component that contributes to immune system variability. Changes in usage of particular IGHD genes—including IGHD3-22—may be observed in certain diseases such as some B cell leukemias, indicating potential research interest but not direct therapeutic targeting[2].
