Overview
Immunoglobulin heavy diversity (IGHD) 4-11 is a germline gene segment belonging to the diversity (D) gene family of the immunoglobulin heavy chain locus in humans. It encodes part of the variable (V) region of immunoglobulin heavy chains, contributing to antibody diversity through V(D)J recombination in developing B cells. IGHD segments are combined with variable (IGHV) and joining (IGHJ) gene segments to generate the repertoire of antibody specificities. The IGHD4-11 segment does not represent a protein, enzyme, receptor, or therapeutic target itself, but rather is a genetic building block used during somatic recombination. As such, it is not a therapeutic target, nor is it a standalone molecular entity with biological activity or drug interactions. References to this gene as a standalone molecular or therapeutic target are incorrect.
