Overview

Immunoglobulin heavy diversity 4-17 (IGHD4-17) is one of the diversity (D) gene segments in the immunoglobulin heavy chain (IGH) locus on human chromosome 14, which contributes to antibody diversity through somatic V(D)J recombination in developing B cells[6][3][2]. The immunoglobulin heavy chain is formed by the recombination of variable (V), diversity (D), and joining (J) gene segments, resulting in each B cell expressing a unique antigen receptor[6][1]. IGHD4-17 encodes part of the variable domain in immunoglobulin heavy chains. While changes or polymorphism in the IGH locus broadly can influence immune function and susceptibility to disease, IGHD4-17 itself is a DNA sequence component and not a protein target, receptor, or enzyme, and it does not function as a direct therapeutic target or clinical biomarker[2][6][3].
