Immunoglobulin heavy diversity 5-12 (IGHD5-12) is one of the gene segments located within the immunoglobulin heavy chain (IGH) locus. This locus contains multiple types of gene segments: variable (IGHV), diversity (IGHD), joining (IGHJ), and constant (IGHC). IGHD5-12 is specifically a member of the diversity (D) gene segments, which recombine with variable (V) and joining (J) segments via the V(D)J recombination process during B cell development. This recombination is essential for generating the vast diversity of antigen-binding regions in antibodies. The IGHD gene segments do not encode proteins on their own, but contribute to the third complementarity-determining region (CDR3) of the immunoglobulin heavy chain, the most variable part of the antigen binding site[1][2][3][4]. IGHD5-12 has no known direct role in disease, is not a therapeutic target, and is not known to interact with drugs.
