Overview

Immunoglobulin heavy diversity 6-6 (IGHD6-6) is one of several D (diversity) gene segments present in the immunoglobulin heavy chain locus (IGH) on human chromosome 14. During B cell development, the antibody heavy chain variable region is generated by somatic recombination that joins a random V (variable), D (diversity), and J (joining) segment. The D segments, such as IGHD6-6, contribute to the hypervariable third complementarity-determining region (CDR3) of the heavy chain, which is critical for antigen specificity and binding diversity[1][3]. IGHD6-6 and other D segments are not translated as standalone proteins or direct cellular targets but form essential building blocks in the genetic generation of antibody diversity. IGHD6-6 is not classified as a therapeutic target, receptor, or enzyme, nor is it directly implicated as a standalone biomarker, drug-interacting molecule, or disease-associated gene product. Its function is restricted to gene rearrangement events that, in aggregate, result in the extensive library of potential antibodies the adaptive immune system can produce[1].
