Immunoglobulin heavy joining 5 (IGHJ5) is a gene segment within the immunoglobulin heavy chain (IGH) locus, encoding one of several possible joining (J) segments used during somatic recombination (VDJ recombination) in early B-cell development[1][2][6][10][11][12]. This process is essential for generating the diverse repertoire of antibodies required for the adaptive immune system in humans. The IGHJ5 segment, when joined with specific variable (V) and diversity (D) segments, forms part of the variable region of the immunoglobulin heavy chain, ultimately contributing to antigen binding diversity. IGHJ5 is not itself a receptor, enzyme, or independent therapeutic target, but rather a genomic element essential for antibody gene rearrangement[2][11]. Variation in IGHJ5 and related IGH segments may subtly influence immune function and susceptibility to disease, but the segment itself is not directly targeted by therapeutic drugs[8][12].
