Immunoglobulin heavy variable 1-14 (IGHV1-14)

IGHV1-14 is a human immunoglobulin heavy chain variable (IGHV) pseudogene located within the immunoglobulin heavy chain locus on chromosome 14[4][6]. IGHV genes as a general class provide the genetic diversity essential for antibody (immunoglobulin) specificity by contributing to the variable region of the heavy chain in B-cell receptors and secreted antibodies[5][2][3]. Pseudogenes, however, are non-functional gene copies that result from duplication or retrotransposition events and accumulate disabling mutations[4][6]. IGHV1-14, consequently, is not expressed as a functional immunoglobulin heavy chain and does not contribute to antigen recognition or immune function in humans. Functional genes from the IGHV family are, in contrast, essential for the generation of the antibody repertoire and adaptive immune response[5][3][2].
