Immunoglobulin heavy variable 1-24 (IGHV1-24) encodes the variable region of the heavy chain of human immunoglobulins, which are crucial for antigen recognition in the humoral immune response. The variable region is assembled by V-(D)-J recombination and can undergo somatic hypermutation to increase affinity for specific antigens. IGHV genes, including IGHV1-24, are highly polymorphic and contribute to the diversity of antibodies, enabling recognition of a wide range of pathogens. IGHV1-24 is not a receptor, enzyme, or druggable therapeutic target itself; rather, it is a genetic component that forms part of the variable region in antibodies produced by B cells. Variation in IGHV family genes (including IGHV1-24) impacts the adaptive immune response, and allelic differences may influence susceptibility to infection, autoimmune disease, and the body’s ability to generate effective antibody repertoires. IGHV1-24 does not have approved drugs or well-established biomarkers directly linked to its function.
