Immunoglobulin heavy variable 1-45 (IGHV1-45) is a gene segment encoding one of the variable (V) domains for the heavy chain of immunoglobulins, also known as antibodies[1][5]. IGHV1-45 itself is not a complete protein or receptor but is used in the assembly of antibody variable domains through a process of somatic recombination (V-(D)-J recombination) during B cell development, resulting in the vast diversity of antibody specificities in the adaptive immune system[1][3]. The genes of the IGHV family, including IGHV1-45, are located in the immunoglobulin heavy chain (IGH) locus on chromosome 14[5][6]. They show significant allelic diversity, contributing to variations in immune response between individuals and populations[2][6]. While IGHV rearrangements and mutational status have clinical significance as biomarkers in certain B cell malignancies, IGHV1-45 is not a therapeutic target like a receptor, enzyme, or transporter; rather, it encodes part of the antibody variable region essential for antigen recognition[1][3][5].
