Immunoglobulin heavy variable 2-26 is a variable (V) gene segment of the immunoglobulin heavy chain locus in humans. This segment encodes part of the antibody variable domain, which is responsible for antigen recognition. IGHV2-26, like other IGHV genes, contributes to the diversity of the antibody repertoire via V(D)J recombination, allowing the immune system to recognize a vast array of antigens. The variable domain, together with the paired light chain, forms the antigen-binding site of immunoglobulins (antibodies). IGHV2-26 is not a receptor, enzyme, or traditional drug target. It is essential for immune defense, but its direct manipulation is not standard in therapeutics; it is studied primarily in immunology, repertoire analysis, or certain research contexts.
