Immunoglobulin heavy variable 3-33-2 (pseudogene) (IGHV3-33-2)

Target
IGHV3-33-2
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Immunoglobulin gene family
01

Overview

Immunoglobulin heavy variable 3-33-2 (pseudogene) is a member of the immunoglobulin heavy chain variable (IGHV) gene family but is classified as a pseudogene due to inactivating mutations that prevent it from encoding a functional immunoglobulin variable region protein. Functional IGHV genes participate in creating the variable domains of antibodies via V(D)J recombination, leading to antibody diversity and antigen recognition; however, pseudogenes like IGHV3-33-2 do not contribute functional protein and are not expressed as part of the B-cell receptor or soluble antibody repertoire. Their presence is typically the result of gene duplication followed by accumulation of disruptive mutations. As such, IGHV3-33-2 has no recognized role in immune function or disease and cannot be considered a pharmacological or diagnostic target.
