Immunoglobulin heavy variable 3-48 is a gene segment that encodes the variable (V) region of the immunoglobulin heavy chain in B cells[2][3][5][7]. The V region forms part of the antigen-binding site of antibodies and is responsible for specific recognition of antigens, working together with different light chain variable regions. This gene segment is part of the complex immunoglobulin genomic locus on chromosome 14 and contributes to the remarkable diversity of antibodies produced by the human immune system through V(D)J recombination[1][5]. The product of IGHV3-48 itself is not a therapeutic target but is a structural genetic component used by lymphocytes to generate the diversity of the antibody repertoire[2][3][4][7]. IGHV3-48 does not function as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other drug target in isolation and therefore is not considered a therapeutic target nor directly interacts with drugs; its expression is instead essential for the adaptive immune response and antibody-mediated immunity[1][2][3][4].
