Overview

Immunoglobulin heavy variable 3-64D (IGHV3-64D) is a gene coding for one of the variable (V) regions of immunoglobulin heavy chains, essential for the generation of antibody diversity[1][4]. It encodes part of the variable domain that participates in antigen recognition and binding, a critical determinant of the adaptive immune response conducted by B lymphocytes. The IGHV3-64D gene contributes to the V(D)J recombination process, which creates the vast repertoire of immunoglobulin specificities by shuffling variable (V), diversity (D), and joining (J) gene segments. The product is not itself a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or classical therapeutic target but rather an intrinsic part of immunoglobulin structure. Dysregulation or mutation of IGHV genes, including IGHV3-64D, can be implicated in various B cell lymphoproliferative disorders and autoimmune diseases through the selection of aberrant or autoreactive antibodies[1][3][4].
