Immunoglobulin heavy variable 4-39 (IGHV4-39)

Target
IGHV4-39
Molecular classification
Other (immunoglobulin variable gene segment), Component of the antibody heavy chain variable region
01

Overview

Immunoglobulin heavy variable 4-39 (IGHV4-39) is a gene segment within the human immunoglobulin heavy chain locus on chromosome 14, encoding the variable region of the antibody heavy chain. This variable region enables a diverse repertoire of antigen binding for humoral immune responses. IGHV genes contribute to the adaptive immune system by generating diversity through V(D)J recombination and somatic hypermutation. IGHV4-39 variants and usage frequency can affect antibody responses and have been studied in association with autoimmunity, infectious diseases, and B-cell malignancies. However, IGHV4-39 is not considered a druggable target, but rather a crucial genomic element in immunology and disease.

Biological functions

Antigen bindingAdaptive immune responseHumoral immunity (contributes to antibody function)
03

Disease associations

Cancer (clonal expansions/mutations in IGHV genes may be relevant in B-cell lymphomas and leukemias; IGHV4-39 usage is studied in disease contexts, but not directly a target)Other (autoimmune disorders and infectious disease influence antibody repertoires)
04

Safety considerations

None specific (No noted safety concerns or therapeutic challenges; rather, somatic mutation or aberrant IGHV segment usage may be relevant in B-cell disorders)
05

Biomarkers

IGHV4-39 gene usage may be a biomarker in clinical studies assessing immunoglobulin repertoire diversity or aberrant clonal expansion (such as in certain B-cell malignancies)IGHV gene usage may serve as biomarker in disease stratification, but IGHV4-39 is not uniquely used for patient selection or efficacy monitoring
