Immunoglobulin heavy variable 4-55 (IGHV4-55) is a gene segment in the human immunoglobulin heavy chain locus that encodes a distinct variable region used in the assembly of antibody heavy chains. The IGHV4-55 segment belongs to the IGHV4 family of immunoglobulin heavy chain variable genes and contributes, through V(D)J recombination, to the creation of a diverse repertoire of B-cell receptors and antibodies. The IGHV region defines the antigen-binding specificity of antibodies. IGHV4-55 is one of many variable region genes expressed in B lymphocytes, but it is not a therapeutic target itself; rather, its encoded protein can be part of an antibody that targets antigens as part of the normal immune response.
