Immunoglobulin heavy variable 4-59 (IGHV4-59) is a human gene encoding one of the germline variable domains of the immunoglobulin heavy chain. This gene segment contributes to the antigen-binding variable region of immunoglobulins (antibodies), produced by B lymphocytes. The IGHV4-59 segment combines with diversity (D) and joining (J) segments during V(D)J recombination to generate the unique antigen recognition site of each antibody[1][3][4][6]. This process is fundamental to immune system diversity and specificity. IGHV4-59 has been observed in the context of immune responses to HIV-1, particularly in generating antibodies against the Gag protein; it is also associated in the literature with antibody repertoire studies and certain B-cell lymphomas[2].
