Target intelligence / Profile preview
Immunoglobulin heavy variable 7-34-1 (IGHV7-34-1) is a member of the variable region gene segments within the immunoglobulin heavy chain locus (chromosome 14q32.33). As with other IGHV gene segments, it encodes part of the variable domain of the immunoglobulin heavy chain, contributing to the antigen-binding diversity of antibodies produced by B lymphocytes. The variable regions undergo V(D)J recombination, and their protein products form the structural basis for antibody antigen recognition. While essential for the generation of antibody diversity and thus adaptive immunity, individual IGHV gene segments such as IGHV7-34-1 are not typically therapeutic targets on their own. IGHV genes are classified within the immunoglobulin superfamily and classified as variable gene segments, not as independent targets. They play essential roles in antigen recognition, antibody diversity, and adaptive immune responses. Polymorphisms and structural variants in the IGHV region contribute to antibody repertoire diversity and may have indirect roles in disease susceptibility but are not direct drug targets or, generally, stand-alone disease genes. The reference for "IGHV7-34-1" is rare and may be absent in some major human genomic databases; most highly cited IGHV genes are those with clear functional or disease associations (e.g., IGHV1-69, IGHV3-23). IGHV7-34-1 is essential for immune diversity but has no established role as a direct therapeutic or diagnostic target and may be referenced or annotated inconsistently in the literature.
