Overview

Immunoglobulin kappa joining 2 (IGKJ2) is one of several “joining” gene segments (J segments) at the immunoglobulin kappa locus (chromosome 2p11.2). These gene segments are crucial components of V(D)J recombination, the specialized DNA rearrangement process that enables developing B cells to assemble unique kappa light chain variable regions for immunoglobulin molecules (antibodies). IGKJ2 itself does not encode a complete functional protein; rather, it encodes a short joining sequence that contributes to the variable domain of an immunoglobulin light chain after somatic recombination. The function of the IGKJ2 segment, like other immunoglobulin joining segments, is essential for creating the immense diversity of immunoglobulin molecules required for effective adaptive immunity. IGKJ2 is not currently considered a therapeutic, diagnostic, or prognostic target. If you are seeking information on kappa light chain proteins or antibodies themselves as therapeutic targets or biomarkers, those would be “Immunoglobulin kappa light chain” or specific antibody molecules (not the IGKJ2 segment).
