Overview

Immunoglobulin kappa joining 3 (IGKJ3) is a joining (J) gene segment in the immunoglobulin kappa light chain locus, located on human chromosome 2. It participates in somatic recombination with variable region (V) gene segments during B cell development to generate the diverse antigen-binding regions of immunoglobulin (antibody) molecules. The kappa locus contains multiple V and J genes, and one J gene is randomly selected and recombined with a V gene to form a complete variable region for the kappa light chain. IGKJ3 is one of several such J segments; its main biological role is contributing to the diversity of antibodies produced by B cells through VJ rearrangement. IGKJ3 does not encode a conventional functional protein or receptor and is not considered a therapeutic target. It is essential for normal immune system function but has no direct role as a drug target or disease biomarker.

Disease associations

Other (No direct implication in disease as a functional unit, but part of pathways that, if altered, can impact immune function. Some association with immunoglobulin gene rearrangements may be noted in the context of B cell malignancies or immunodeficiencies, but not specifically as a disease driver)
