Overview

Immunoglobulin kappa joining 4 (IGKJ4) is one of several joining (J) gene segments within the immunoglobulin kappa light chain locus, located on chromosome 2p11.2. During B cell development, IGKJ4 can be joined to upstream variable (V) gene segments by V(D)J recombination, together with the constant (C) region gene, to produce a functional light chain gene for the B cell receptor or antibody molecule. The IGKJ segments, including IGKJ4, are critical for generating the vast diversity of the antibody repertoire by enabling different combinatorial arrangements with variable and constant regions. IGKJ4 itself is not a direct therapeutic target, drug receptor, or biomarker in clinical practice.
