The immunoglobulin kappa (κ) light chain is one of the two types of light chains found in antibodies. It participates in antigen recognition by forming part of the antigen-binding site along with heavy chain domains. Abnormal increases or imbalances can indicate plasma cell disorders such as multiple myeloma, monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS), or primary amyloidosis. Some pathological variants show altered stability compared to non-pathogenic forms—certain disease-associated variants aggregate more readily under physiological conditions leading to tissue deposition and organ dysfunction.
