Immunoglobulin kappa variable 1-13 (IGKV1-13) refers to the variable (V) region of the kappa light chain of immunoglobulins, which are also known as antibodies[1][2][4]. This region participates in antigen recognition, forming part of the antigen-binding site along with the variable domain of the heavy chain. Each immunoglobulin is capable of highly specific recognition due to this variable region, assembled through V-(D)-J rearrangement and subject to somatic hypermutation for affinity maturation after antigen exposure[1][2][4]. IGKV1-13 is categorized as a pseudogene, meaning it is not generally believed to produce a functional protein in humans[4]. Immunoglobulins are critical for the adaptive immune response, where they function as receptors on B lymphocytes for antigen detection and, upon activation, contribute to the elimination of pathogens during the effector phase of humoral immunity[2][4]. IGKV1-13 is not considered a direct therapeutic target (such as a receptor or enzyme); rather, it is a segment involved in the generation of antibody diversity[4].
