Immunoglobulin kappa variable 1-5 (IGKV1-5) is a protein coding gene representing the variable (V) region of the kappa light chain of human immunoglobulins (antibodies)[1][2]. The V region of an immunoglobulin light chain, along with the V region of a heavy chain, forms the antigen-binding site of the antibody and is critical for the immense diversity of the immune response[1][2]. This region is assembled via V-(D)-J gene rearrangement and can be further diversified by somatic hypermutation, enabling adaptation to a wide array of antigens[2]. IGKV1-5 itself is not considered a direct therapeutic target, but is part of the larger structure of immunoglobulins which serve as the molecular basis for both natural and therapeutic antibody function. IGKV1-5 is detected in various tissues and body fluids as part of antibodies and its expression profile can be measured in health and disease, including cancer, where it may serve as a diagnostic or prognostic biomarker[4].
