The Immunoglobulin kappa variable 1D-12 gene (IGKV1D-12) encodes part of the variable region of the immunoglobulin kappa light chain, which, together with complementary regions from heavy chains, forms the antigen-binding domain of B-cell receptors and secreted antibodies. This region is assembled into mature immunoglobulins through the process of V-(D)-J recombination and is subject to somatic hypermutation to increase antigen affinity during immune responses. IGKV1D-12 is located within the distal cluster of the IGK locus on chromosome 2p11.2, and its protein product appears in both membrane-bound and secreted immunoglobulins, facilitating antigen recognition and humoral immunity[1][3][4]. This gene segment is one of many that contribute to the immense diversity of the human antibody repertoire.
