Immunoglobulin kappa variable 1D-33 (IGKV1D-33) encodes the variable region of the kappa light chain of human immunoglobulins, which forms part of the antigen-binding site on antibodies[1][3][8]. This protein is produced by B lymphocytes and plays a central role in the adaptive immune response by recognizing and binding specific antigens, thus contributing to antibody diversity and specificity[1][3][8]. IGKV1D-33 is secreted and found in blood microparticles and extracellular exosomes[1][9]. Like other immunoglobulin variable domains, it is involved in the process of V(D)J recombination and somatic hypermutation, both critical for generating the antibody repertoire needed to recognize a vast array of antigens[1][8]. IGKV1D-33 is not considered a direct therapeutic target (such as a receptor or enzyme), but rather a component of antibodies, which themselves can be therapeutic agents. There are currently no drugs known to specifically target this gene or protein, and it is not associated with any common safety concerns or clinically validated biomarker uses[1][3].
