Immunoglobulin kappa variable 1D-39 (IGKV1D-39) encodes the variable domain of the kappa light chain of immunoglobulins (antibodies). This region is critical for the formation of the antigen binding site, enabling the immune system to recognize and specifically bind diverse antigens. The variable region is assembled via V-(D)-J (variable-diversity-joining) recombination and undergoes somatic hypermutation to optimize affinity in the adaptive immune response.
