Immunoglobulin kappa variable 1D-8 is a protein component of the variable region of immunoglobulin kappa light chains, assembled by V-(D)-J gene rearrangement in B lymphocytes. It constitutes part of the antigen-binding site with its paired heavy chain, enabling antibodies to recognize a wide diversity of antigens. This region is critical for both membrane-bound and secreted immunoglobulins, forming the basis for humoral immune specificity and affinity maturation through somatic hypermutation. Aberrations in IGKV genes including IGKV1D-8 can be involved in lymphoid malignancies and autoimmunity, and their rearrangements are often used as molecular markers in diagnostics.
