It is annotated as an IG V pseudogene, meaning it does not produce a functional immunoglobulin kappa light chain variable region protein. Pseudogenes like IGKV2-26 are characterized by mutations or deletions that prevent them from encoding functional protein products. While functional immunoglobulin variable regions are essential for antigen diversity in antibodies, IGKV2-26 does not contribute to the antigen-binding repertoire and has no known direct role in immunity, disease, or therapeutic targeting. IGKV2-26 is part of the highly polymorphic immunoglobulin kappa locus, which contains functional, ORF, and pseudogene segments. The nomenclature may cause confusion, as IGKV2-26 (proximal cluster) and IGKV2D-26 (distal cluster) are both pseudogenes and are not functional antigen receptor genes. No evidence supports this molecule as a receptor, enzyme, or drug target. No therapeutic drugs or biomarkers exist for IGKV2-26.
