Overview

Immunoglobulin kappa variable 2-36 (IGKV2-36) is a member of the immunoglobulin kappa light chain variable region gene family located at chromosome 2p11.2[3][4]. Immunoglobulin variable region genes encode the antigen recognition portions of antibodies, generated through a process known as V(D)J recombination in developing B cells. The product of the IGKV2-36 gene, if expressed, would encode a variable (V) region that combines with a joining (J) region to contribute to antigen specificity. However, IGKV2-36 is mainly annotated as a pseudogene, meaning it is not generally productive in constructing functional immunoglobulin light chains[1][4]. The immunoglobulin variable region gene repertoire is highly diverse and underpins the adaptive immune system's ability to recognize a vast array of antigens[2][3]. IGKV2-36 does not itself act as a typical therapeutic target; rather, it is one of many gene segments involved in generating antibody diversity. Some immunoglobulin variable genes can occasionally be implicated in autoimmunity or lymphoid cancers through abnormal rearrangements, but IGKV2-36 itself is not specifically associated with such roles in the literature available. Key points: - IGKV2-36 is not considered a therapeutic target. - It does not code for a druggable protein or classical receptor/enzymatic target. - Its main function (shared with other V genes) is immune repertoire diversity, but it is a pseudogene in most references, so it does not produce a functional protein[1][4].
