Immunoglobulin kappa variable 2D-24 (IGKV2D-24) is a gene segment found in the distal cluster of the immunoglobulin kappa (IGK) light chain locus at chromosome 2p11.2[3][4]. It encodes the variable (V) region of the light chain of immunoglobulins. Most evidence indicates IGKV2D-24 is a probable non-functional open reading frame (ORF), meaning it generally cannot participate in the synthesis of a productive immunoglobulin light chain due to mutations affecting recombination, splicing, or conserved amino acid sequences[1][4][5]. Immunoglobulin V region genes are critical for the generation of antibody diversity via somatic recombination (V-J for kappa chain), enabling B cell receptors and secreted antibodies to recognize a vast array of antigens[3][4][5]. The IGKV2D-24 gene can be rearranged during lymphocyte development, but its products are typically not expressed at the protein level due to nonfunctionality. The overall kappa locus contains both functional V genes and non-functional ORFs and pseudogenes[4][3]. IGKV2D-24 does not act as a classical receptor, enzyme, or target in pharmacology.
