Like other variable region genes, it forms part of the genomic repertoire that can contribute to generating antibody diversity, though IGKV7-3 itself is a pseudogene, meaning it does not encode a functional immunoglobulin protein. Pseudogenes such as IGKV7-3 are non-functional due to mutation, recombination, or other genomic alterations and thus are not involved directly in immune function or disease. This gene, as is standard for pseudogenes in the immunoglobulin gene cluster, does not serve as a therapeutic drug target and is not used for pharmacological intervention or clinical biomarker purposes.
